  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup asiago cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup baking soda (for boiling)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and asiago cheese to the yeast mixture. Knead until smooth, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  5. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add baking soda.
  6. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and shape into a pretzel.
  7. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet.
  8. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
