Description

Cabbage rolls filled with seasoned meat and rice, baked in a savory tomato sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and blanch the leaves for 2-3 minutes until pliable.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic until translucent.
  4. In a bowl, combine ground beef, cooked rice, sautéed onion, garlic, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Place a generous spoonful of the filling in the center of each cabbage leaf. Roll tightly, tucking in the sides.
  6. In a baking dish, mix tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and Worcestershire sauce. Spread a thin layer in the bottom of the dish.
  7. Arrange the cabbage rolls seam side down in the dish. Pour remaining sauce over the rolls.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  9. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For variation, try using ground turkey or pork.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley or dill before serving.
  • Serve with a side of sour cream for added richness.
