- 1 whole chicken (3–4 lbs)
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 2 celery stalks, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped
Instructions
- In a large pot, bring chicken broth to a boil.
- Add whole chicken, reduce heat, and simmer for 1 hour until cooked through.
- Remove chicken, let cool, and shred meat, discarding bones and skin.
- In the same pot, sauté onions, carrots, celery, and garlic until softened.
- Add shredded chicken back to the pot.
- In a bowl, mix flour, milk, butter, thyme, salt, and pepper to form a dough.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough into the simmering broth.
- Cover and cook for 15 minutes until dumplings are fluffy.
- Garnish with parsley before serving.
Notes
- You can use rotisserie chicken for quicker preparation.
- Experiment with herbs like rosemary or dill for different flavors.
- Serve with crusty bread for a complete meal.
