Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Add brown sugar, granulated sugar, water, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir until well combined.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 5 minutes without stirring.
  4. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and cinnamon.
  6. Gradually add flour mixture to the butter-sugar mixture, stirring until just combined.
  7. Spread the mixture evenly onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts on top.
  10. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • You can drizzle melted chocolate on top for added flavor.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
