- 1 loaf of day-old bread, cubed (about 10 cups)
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups celery, diced
- 2 cups onion, diced
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons dried sage
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add celery, onion, and garlic. Sauté until soft.
- Stir in sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for another minute.
- In a large bowl, combine bread cubes, sautéed vegetables, broth, eggs, and parsley.
- Mix gently until moist but not soggy.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
- Bake uncovered for 30-40 minutes until golden brown on top.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use homemade broth.
- Add chopped nuts or dried fruits for a variation.
