Classic diner-style cheeseburger with fries
Ingredients
- Ground beef: 1 lb
- Salt: 1 tsp
- Pepper: 1/2 tsp
- Cheddar cheese: 4 slices
- Burger buns: 4
- Lettuce: 4 leaves
- Tomato: 1, sliced
- Onion: 1, sliced
- Pickles: 1/2 cup
- Ketchup: to taste
- Mustard: to taste
- Potatoes: 2 lbs (for fries)
- Vegetable oil: for frying
Instructions
- Form ground beef into 4 patties, season with salt and pepper.
- Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook patties for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness.
- Add cheese slices on top of patties during the last minute of cooking.
- Toast burger buns on the grill or skillet until golden.
- Assemble burgers: place lettuce, patty with cheese, tomato, onion, and pickles on the bun.
- For fries, cut potatoes into sticks and soak in cold water for 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry potatoes in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
- Drain on paper towels, season with salt, and serve with burgers.
