Description

Classic grilled cheese sandwich with a gourmet twist.


Ingredients

  • 4 slices of sourdough bread
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 ounces Gruyère cheese, grated
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped

Instructions

  1. Spread Dijon mustard on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
  2. Combine the grated cheddar and Gruyère cheeses in a bowl.
  3. Layer the cheese mixture evenly on two slices of bread, then sprinkle with chopped chives.
  4. Top with the remaining slices of bread, mustard side down.
  5. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter.
  6. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  7. Flip the sandwiches, add remaining butter, and cook until the other side is golden and cheese is melted, another 3-4 minutes.

Notes

  • For a variation, add sliced tomatoes or cooked bacon between the cheese layers.
  • Use a panini press for an even crispier texture.
  • Serve with a side of tomato soup for a classic pairing.
