Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a lined baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set.
- Allow to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar and garnish with chocolate sprinkles if desired.
Notes
- For a peppermint variation, add 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract to the dough.
- For an almond flavor, substitute almond extract for vanilla.
- Consider using a cookie cutter for festive shapes.
