Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
  3. In a pot, heat ghee over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
  4. Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
  5. Stir in turmeric and garam masala, cooking for 1 minute.
  6. Add drained rice and sauté for 2-3 minutes to coat the grains.
  7. Pour in 2 cups of water and add salt. Bring to a boil.
  8. Cover the pot, reduce heat to low, and cook for 15 minutes.
  9. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes.
  10. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
