Ingredients

  • 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Boil the cubed potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15 minutes.
  2. Drain and let the potatoes cool slightly.
  3. Mash the potatoes until smooth, then mix in flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne.
  4. Form the mixture into small cylinders or balls.
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the tots in batches until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes.
  7. Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
