A rich and hearty steak and sausage pie, perfect for a comforting meal.

- 500g beef steak, diced
- 250g sausage meat
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 200ml beef stock
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 teaspoon rosemary
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 400g puff pastry
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
- In a large pan, brown the diced beef over medium heat. Remove and set aside.
- Add onions and garlic to the pan, sauté until soft.
- Stir in the carrots and cook for another 3 minutes.
- Add the sausage meat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon.
- Mix in the tomato paste, beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper.
- Return the beef to the pan and simmer for 30 minutes until the mixture thickens.
- Roll out the puff pastry and line a pie dish, leaving enough overhang.
- Fill the pastry with the steak and sausage mixture.
- Cover with another layer of pastry, sealing the edges. Cut slits for steam to escape.
- Brush the top with beaten egg.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add a splash of red wine during cooking.
- You can substitute the beef steak with lamb for a different taste.
- Serve with mashed potatoes or a side salad for a complete meal.
