A rich and hearty steak and sausage pie, perfect for a comforting meal.


Ingredients

  • 500g beef steak, diced
  • 250g sausage meat
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 200ml beef stock
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 400g puff pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
  2. In a large pan, brown the diced beef over medium heat. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add onions and garlic to the pan, sauté until soft.
  4. Stir in the carrots and cook for another 3 minutes.
  5. Add the sausage meat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon.
  6. Mix in the tomato paste, beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper.
  7. Return the beef to the pan and simmer for 30 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  8. Roll out the puff pastry and line a pie dish, leaving enough overhang.
  9. Fill the pastry with the steak and sausage mixture.
  10. Cover with another layer of pastry, sealing the edges. Cut slits for steam to escape.
  11. Brush the top with beaten egg.
  12. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a splash of red wine during cooking.
  • You can substitute the beef steak with lamb for a different taste.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or a side salad for a complete meal.
