Description
A classic steak dinner recipe featuring a perfectly seared steak with a rich pan sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ribeye steaks (1.5 inches thick)
- Salt and black pepper (to taste)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, crushed
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Remove steaks from the refrigerator and let them rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.
- Season both sides of the steaks generously with salt and black pepper.
- Heat a large skillet over high heat and add vegetable oil.
- Once the oil is shimmering, place the steaks in the skillet. Sear for 4-5 minutes without moving them.
- Flip the steaks and add butter, garlic, and thyme to the skillet.
- Baste the steaks with the melted butter for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until they reach your desired doneness.
- Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
- In the same skillet, add red wine and scrape up any browned bits. Reduce by half.
- Add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, then simmer until slightly thickened.
- Slice the steaks and serve with the pan sauce drizzled over the top.
Notes
- For a more intense flavor, marinate the steaks in garlic and herbs for a few hours before cooking.
- Consider using a cast-iron skillet for better heat retention and crust formation.
- Experiment with different herbs like rosemary or sage for varied flavor profiles.
