Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in vanilla extract.
  6. In another bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  7. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk.
  8. Fold in sliced strawberries.
  9. Divide the batter evenly into prepared pans.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  11. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  12. Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  13. Assemble the cake by layering one cake round with whipped cream and strawberries, then top with the second cake round.
  14. Frost the top and sides with remaining whipped cream and garnish with whole strawberries.
