- 1 large head of green cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup uncooked rice
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the cabbage by boiling the head in salted water for 5-7 minutes until leaves soften.
- In a skillet, sauté onion and garlic until translucent.
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, rice, sautéed onion, garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Carefully peel off cabbage leaves and place 2-3 tablespoons of filling in each leaf.
- Roll the leaves tightly, tucking in the sides to secure the filling.
- In a baking dish, mix tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, lemon juice, and brown sugar.
- Place stuffed rolls seam-side down in the dish, covering with remaining sauce.
- Cover with foil and bake at 350°F for 1 hour.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to brown the tops.
