  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cabbage by boiling the head in salted water for 5-7 minutes until leaves soften.
  2. In a skillet, sauté onion and garlic until translucent.
  3. In a bowl, combine ground beef, rice, sautéed onion, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  4. Carefully peel off cabbage leaves and place 2-3 tablespoons of filling in each leaf.
  5. Roll the leaves tightly, tucking in the sides to secure the filling.
  6. In a baking dish, mix tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, lemon juice, and brown sugar.
  7. Place stuffed rolls seam-side down in the dish, covering with remaining sauce.
  8. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F for 1 hour.
  9. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to brown the tops.
