Description
A classic Thanksgiving dish featuring roasted turkey infused with herbs and spices, accompanied by savory stuffing and cranberry sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 whole turkey (12–14 lbs)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
- 2 cups bread cubes (stale preferred)
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 1 cup cranberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
- Prepare the turkey by patting it dry with paper towels.
- In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with salt, pepper, thyme, rosemary, and sage.
- Rub the herb butter mixture all over the turkey, including under the skin.
- In a skillet, sauté the onion and celery until soft. Combine with bread cubes and chicken broth to make stuffing.
- Stuff the turkey cavity with the bread mixture, securing with kitchen twine.
- Place the turkey in a roasting pan and cover loosely with foil.
- Roast the turkey for about 3 to 3.5 hours, removing the foil for the last hour to brown the skin.
- While the turkey roasts, prepare the cranberry sauce by combining cranberries, sugar, and water in a saucepan. Cook until berries burst.
- Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, brine the turkey overnight.
- Use homemade stock for the stuffing for added depth.
- Consider adding nuts or dried fruits to the stuffing for variation.
