- 1 whole turkey (12–14 lbs)
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 2 cups cornbread, cubed
- 1 cup celery, diced
- 1 cup onion, diced
- 1 cup cranberries, fresh
- 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- In a bowl, mix butter, rosemary, thyme, garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Rub the mixture under the turkey skin and all over the turkey.
- In a separate pan, sauté celery and onion until translucent.
- Add cornbread, cranberries, walnuts, and brown sugar to the sautéed mixture.
- Moisten with chicken broth and mix well.
- Stuff the turkey cavity with the cornbread mixture.
- Place the turkey on a roasting rack and pour remaining chicken broth into the roasting pan.
- Roast for about 3-4 hours, basting every 30 minutes.
- Check internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (74°C) in the thigh.
- Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
Notes
- For a gluten-free option, substitute cornbread with gluten-free bread.
- Experiment with different nuts, like pecans or almonds, for variation.
- Consider using a brine for the turkey for enhanced flavor and moisture.
