Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • Food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light.
  4. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract to the butter mixture.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients.
  6. Roll out the dough and cut into shapes.
  7. Place cookies on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  8. Let cookies cool completely.
  9. To make royal icing, beat egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
  10. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix until stiff peaks form.
  11. Divide icing into bowls and add food coloring as desired.
  12. Decorate cooled cookies with icing.
