These Christmas cookies are decorated with royal icing for a festive touch.
Ingredients

- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons meringue powder
- 6 tablespoons warm water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add egg and extracts, mix well.
- Gradually add flour mixture, stir until combined.
- Roll dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut shapes with cookie cutters and place on baking sheets.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
- Cool completely before icing.
- For royal icing, beat powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water until stiff peaks form.
- Decorate cookies as desired with royal icing.
