Classic Russian Tea Cakes are buttery, nutty cookies rolled in powdered sugar. They melt in your mouth and are perfect for any occasion.

- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup finely chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar for coating
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and 1/2 cup powdered sugar until smooth.
- Add the vanilla extract and mix well.
- Gradually blend in the flour and salt.
- Stir in the chopped nuts.
- Shape the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the bottoms are lightly golden.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
- Roll the warm cookies in powdered sugar and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
Notes
- Store cookies in an airtight container.
- For a variation, try adding cocoa powder for chocolate flavor.
- These cookies can be made a day in advance.
