A nutritious and hearty dish made with dry black eyed peas.
Ingredients

- 1 cup dry black eyed peas
- 4 cups water
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Rinse the dry black eyed peas under cold water.
- Soak the peas in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Drain and rinse the soaked peas.
- In a pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add onion and garlic, sauté until soft.
- Add the black eyed peas, water, salt, pepper, and cumin.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30-40 minutes until peas are tender.
- Serve hot.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add smoked ham hock.
- Adjust seasoning to taste.
