Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- Royal icing for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until smooth.
- Add molasses and egg to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut shapes using cookie cutters and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until firm. Let cool.
- Decorate with royal icing once cooled.
Notes
- Store gingerbread in an airtight container.
- Use different food colors for icing to create vibrant designs.
- Allow cookies to fully cool before decorating.
