Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar together.
  4. Add molasses and egg to the butter mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until combined.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
  8. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  9. Let cool before decorating.

Notes

  • Store cookies in an airtight container.
  • Decorate with icing and candies if desired.
