- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 cup hot water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat together butter and brown sugar.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in molasses and hot water until smooth.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before serving.
Notes
- Serve with whipped cream or icing if desired.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
- This cake can be made a day in advance for better flavor.
