Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Royal icing for decoration
  • Sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until creamy.
  4. Add molasses, egg, and vanilla to the butter mixture. Mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix until combined.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Cut out tree shapes and place them on baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until firm. Let cool.
  9. Decorate with royal icing and sprinkles.
