Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • Royal icing for decoration
  • Assorted candies for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until creamy.
  4. Add molasses and egg to the butter mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.
  6. Chill the dough for at least 1 hour.
  7. Roll out the dough and cut into shapes for the house.
  8. Bake pieces for 10-12 minutes until firm.
  9. Cool completely before assembling.
  10. Use royal icing to glue the pieces together and decorate with candies.
